Background and Coaching Philosophy:
I started out with car racing but switched to speed of the two-wheeled, pedal-power variety
in 1996. With years already behind when I first came to the sport, I've spent time with different
hats: Organizer, Director, Racer, and Coach.
I own Threshold Power, Inc. (www.thresholdpower.com), which hosts training camps in partnership
with Hunter Allen and Peaks Coaching, Inc and is designed for cyclists of all stripes who want
to learn how to incorporate power meters in their training. I'm also an owner of Hawk Relay
Cycling Team (the only world's global UCI Professional Track Trade Team) and am a supervisor
at a local velodrome (Hellyer Park Velodrome), helping to teach velodrome racing to beginners
at the weekly practice sessions.
I race at the track and in the occasional criterium, but most of my racing pleasure is vicarious.
As a USACycling-certified coach, my greatest satisfaction is always derived from the success of
my riders as they demonstrate significant performance jumps. I develop customized training plans
for my clients, utilizing any combination of power meters, strength training and watt zones.
I believe it is critical to the success of my cyclists that they own a power meter since the
data files provided by power meters make me a more intelligent coach and immeasurably enhances
the coach-cyclist relationship.
I juggle life as a coach, owner, consultant and the lesser half in a marriage, and therefore
completely understand the importance of balancing training and competition with other commitments.
Rather than ask my cyclists to rearrange their lives, I build training plans around them by
incorporating workouts appropriate to every individual's lifestyle and goals.
Client Testimonials:
6 years ago I was awesome in the Cat 3, winning several criterium races. At that time I was
new to cycling, trained only 10+ hours a week. Until I move up to the Cat 2 one year later,
it is a whole different story. I haven't won a single race. Most riders in the cat Pro/1/2
have specific training for those races. With help of Robin, I was able to re-define my goals
according to my time to train. Robin gave me advice about equipment and training. He has been
very encouraging and supportive. Always work around with my schedule as a full-time professional
and full-time father.
