Background:
Endurance sports have always played a prominent role in Cort’s life. After chasing down soccer balls on the pitch for nearly twenty years, he transitioned to endurance running and completed several marathons in the Northeast. He purchased his first real road bike during that time as a means of cross-training, and quickly found himself competing in multisport events regionally and nationally as a top age grouper. Looking for a competitive outlet in the traditional “off-season,” Cort entered his first cyclocross race in New England and immediately fell in love with the sport. He jumped from Cat4 to Cat2 in a little over one season, and has spent the past two years cutting his teeth with the nation’s best riders as an Elite. He looks forward to the 2011 cyclocross season, which will mark his first as a Masters racer.
Cort attended college at Syracuse University where he earned a B.S. in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry, and Northeastern University where he earned an M.S. in Toxicology. He currently works as a project manager for a small pharmaceutical company in metro-Boston.
Coaching Philosophy:
Cort’s coaching philosophy was conceived through years of training and competitive racing in cyclocross, road racing, multisport, and endurance running. He knows first-hand how physically, mentally, and emotionally difficult endurance training and racing can be on an athlete. His holistic approach to the details of each individual athlete’s training, racing, nutrition, and rest ensure that the “big picture” is never lost sight of. Cort believes the successful management of both competitive and non-competitive life stress is the key to healthy, motivated, and successful athletes, and it is his goal to address this via intensive interpersonal communication and relationship development with his athletes.
