Background:
Kris started cycling in the 1980's in order to participate in triathlons. Soon, cycling was all-consuming and she started racing in 1985. She attended medical school in Reno in the 1990's and raced on the UNR collegiate team for 4 years. After residency, she got married, had a daughter, and still raced locally. When Masters' Nationals came to Park City in 2004, she decided to try training with power and hired a coach. That year, she finished 3rd in the time trial. The next year, she won the masters age 40-44 criterium and was hooked on training with power and training with a coach! In 2006, she started racing cyclocross and that became her passion in bike racing. Since then, she has podiumed in multiple master's national championships and has 4 stars and stripes jerseys (criterium 2005,cyclocross 2008 and 2009, and time trial 2009).
She has used various powermeters, including powertap, ergomo, and SRM. She also has been able to experience and adapt to many different coaching and training "styles." She also has coached athletes to a wide variety of goals: finishing an ironman triathlon, winning local master's races, competing on the national criterium circuit, and reaching the podium at master's nationals.
Coaching Philosophy:
One of her training philosophies is that change is good. Change forces adaptation and, hopefully, improvement. If you want to be the same rider that you have always been, train the same way you always have..... Using a power meter enables you to train much more specifically and also gives you the confidence that you are training at the right intensity. It also can give you concrete evidence of improvement. That can translate into going faster on the bike and reaching your goals. Her approach is to systematically challenge the physiological systems. She also believes in the power of the mind. The mind is one of the biggest limiters that we all have. We only use about 20% of our athletic potential, so everyone has room for improvement. If you are ready to change it up, work hard, and open your mind to new possibilities, she can help you get closer to your true potential.
