Background:

I have been on a bike as long as I can remember. As a kid, bikes were my wings- they gave me freedom to explore. I began racing on the road at the age of 15. Over the years, I rose to professional ranks in Road, MTB and Cyclocross. I spent four years racing the Domestic road calendar, enjoying the opportunity to ride with many of our sports’ top international athletes. Through the years, I’ve now found The Balance of life and sport so many athletes seek. Competition has taken me around the world- both on and off-road. I’m truly one of the lucky ones to be able to call my passion my career. Bike racing is in my Pedigree.

My strengths as a coach are varied. I have deep experience in Road, Cyclocross and MTB training and racing. I like to think I enable athletes to discover their own long-term sustainable training techniques and skills, useful well beyond our time together. Some of my best attributes come through in outdoor workshops and skills clinics. I am super approachable, easy going and work to make your time fun and engaging. I am a teacher, a powerful presenter, and enjoy personal time with athletes who share my similar passion. I communicate very well across many interpersonal levels showcasing my charismatic personality and passion for what I do.

Through smarter, more focused training, we can all improve our physiological state. Beyond the physical preparation, I work to unlock clients’ internal barriers. Most of my success as a coach has come in simple guidance and advice, while taking into consideration the athlete’s state of mind. The psychology of sport and successful competition is one of the hardest pieces of the puzzle to obtain. As a veteran racer, my experience in a variety of disciplines becomes one of your biggest tools for success.

I am a USAC Level 2 coach, NASM certified personal trainer and hold numerous Bike Fitting certifications. I have spent time training and studying the effects of Altitude domestically and abroad. I am also still very active in the race scene. I love to compete and still enjoy winning! The day that ends I’ll consider hanging up the cleats…

Client Testimonials:

Highly recommended! Working with Russ Stevenson over the last two years has made all the difference. Russ consulted with me to develop and tailor a training plan that is unique to my goals as someone relatively new to bike racing. I have a career and a family, so I'm under a lot of time constraints. With Russ's support, I've been able to execute the plan and increase my power and abilities. I'm certain I wouldn't have enjoyed as much success without Russ.

-Jeff Elston, Cat 3 Master’s B Cross Racer

I have had the best coaching experience with Russell. Following his program and really seeing my self through the whole process is making me faster and I’m achieving my goals. It is nice having a coach that has completed on the highest level in Mountain Biking, Road, and Cyclocross. He can relate, in multiple disciplines, to all of the things I'm experiencing in training and racing. The things that I am trying to do he has done himself and that gives me confidence in his coaching. He has really worked with my constantly changing schedule. I would recommend Russell to anyone looking to achieve best in cycling.

-Kyle McGilvray, Elite Cross, Road and MTB racer

Working with Russ has been a thoroughly positive experience. From his expertise in dialing in my program, to his understanding of various things going on in my crazy life, to his balanced approach to the notion of "competition;" I've always felt like he kept me on the right track. He's given me some tips that were real gems and is also listening to ideas about things I'd like to try for my next training block.

-Brad Leasch, Cat 3 Master’s B Cross racer
