Coaching Focus: Road, Tri, Ultra Endurance, MTB

I began my cycling career a little later in life than most; after my husband had a serious equestrian accident in 1992, we both began cycling together as a form of rehab for David. Soon the whole family was cycling. After a couple of years of recreational cycling with our two children, then ages 10 and 13, the children began racing competitively. Not ones to be left behind, David and I began racing, as well.

I've now participated in just about every aspect of cycling. I've raced mountain, track, road, and triathlons. I've also worked with top coaches in running as well as swimming in order to help coach her triathlete clients, and I've coach for both Specialized Women’s Cycling Camps and Solvang Triathlete Camps. My husband and I have taught several skills clinics in California for track and road. After retiring in 2010 as a Category 2 racer on both track and road, I began my coaching career. Besides my USAC certification, I am currently completing my CPT (certified personal trainer), PES (Sports Performance Specialist), and CES (Corrective Exercise Specialist) with the Academy of Sports Medicine.

Coaching philosophy

I have a unique approach to coaching; my motto is “quality, not quantity.” I know how difficult it can be to balance work, family, and training, and I understand how to work with my clients in order for them to get the most out of their training. Whether it’s racing around the neighborhood or in a pack, I know how to help you achieve your goal. I've coached young and old, male and female. I also co-coach with my husband David, a Level 1 coach, and we have co-coached a successful junior racing team and mountain bike team for the past two years.

Notable achievements
  • National track champion
  • Several state championships in road and track
  • Completed Race Across America (RAAM) with a masters women's team in 2007 and 2010, setting the world record in 2007
  • Competed in RAAM 24 and 24-hour mountain bike racing
Athlete testimonials

Lisa has been awesome! Great coach! We are getting along great... she is making sure I progress and meet my goals! We are very happy with Lisa's style and personality. Thanks again. - Haley, California

Workouts never used to hurt. They do now. But I understand that this is part and parcel of improving! - Richard, United Kingdom

I like working with Lisa; I get feedback and direction. I'm new to power meters, so although the terminology is all new to me, she explains it. - Bruce, Washington

Excellent communication and explanations. Life is getting in the way of my training, so I am often unable to work as well and as much as I could. Lisa has helped me organize and reorganize my workouts to take that into account. - Anthony, California

I love how your coaching service works, and it shows volumes of how well it works to other cyclists I ride and train with. They notice how much I have improved this year, and I'm constantly asked who my coach is. - Scott, California
