Success in cycling, according to Sam’s philosophy, comes from developing a training plan that focuses on the acute loads found during key moments in competition. Training with power enables him as a coach to better prepare you for that “moment of truth” when you are pegged and searching for that last one percent to close or open a gap. From his first season racing a bike he has trained and raced with power. After several years of working with Hunter he has developed a detailed knowledge of and passion for power which has allowed him to maximize training and performance for specific events. Sam also was a member of the Ergomo beta-test team that helped to design the new ErgomoPro, and also a Beta tester for several versions of Cycling Peaks Software and the newest version WKO+. Through his company Krieg Cycling, Sam is an SRM Premium and Power-Tap dealer so his experience with all devices power is quite extensive. Sam also has a diverse athletic background. But one thing is consistent; when he’s excited about a sport, he invests in that sport full force. He has a strong background as a distance runner. He was a miler in college and continued his running after college in marathons such as Boston, Chicago, and Columbus. Sam also spent a significant period of time rock climbing and summited several peaks and big walls around the world in places such as Patagonia and Yosemite. But in 2002 he picked up a bike and hasn’t looked back. His passion for cycling started on the mountain bike and quickly evolved into a passion for road racing and cyclocross. In 2007 Sam broke his back and was able to return within the year to capture two top ten Master Nationals results. If it has two wheels and a finish line, you will see him at the starting line with huge grin and a full tank of fuel ready to rip. His passion for racing and training with power are obvious the minute you meet him. Being an athlete for so long has given Sam an important perspective of both sides of the coach/athlete relationship. He believes that this perspective helps him better serve the needs of the athlete. Finding the right coach for the athlete and the right athlete for the coach is what Sam thinks is key. He likes to think of himself as a killer cup of coffee. If he can’t get you fired up to go out and suffer, then he isn’t doing his job. You can learn more about SAM at his blog: www.cyclocrosstraining.blogspot.com Recent Highlights 2005-2008
