The St. Valentines Day Massacre

This is a pretty quick local crit that a lot of good pros come out to... its the first time that I have done this race with the goal being to bring a field sprint and so at times when there would be a lull I was thinking that there would for sure be an attack.. but there wasn't because I would usually have been the one to make it!
I ended up closing gaps when they were small if it looked like there was no one else to do it... with only myself to help Rahsaan Bahati I wanted to make sure that I didn't do too much... I pawned as much work off as I could... there was a big team of Seasilver guys... Helens RPM which is a local team with a lot of good riders like Harm Jensen, and Mike Tillman... and there was Monex... as well as a ton of local teams with very strong riders who are going like crazy right now because in SoCal all the races worth racing happen now until the end of April and then thats pretty much it...
4 wide right corners.. wide roads.. normal for here... I found myself on the front with Bahati with a half lap to go... we had planned to come from behind but there was no team that had been successful in leading it out from a ways away and so I either had to take early to keep it strung out or not and let it all bunch up which would not have been good for increasing our chances of winning... so I got it lined out in the inside gutter and then into turn three i had to hold off the Helens-RPM team lead out trying to swamp us into the turn... so thats where you will see me pick up the effort in the end to near 1000 watts... made the 3rd turn first... gassed it and pulled over... Jason Bausch from Seasilver took it into turn 4 and Bahati had the good sense to follow.. he started his sprint and looked like winning but was passed on the line by Marty Nothstein from Navigators and Dan Schmatz from Seasilver...Turns out that Rahsaan sat down in the 13 because it wasnt shifting to the 12 and he still was only passed on the line.. not bad...
Notice that while HR is constant more or less... the power is all over the place!... you think that you are riding a steady effort but you ARE NOT!... its crazy.. but true... this was a series of little sprints... I have a TT next friday and we will see what that graph looks like...
thanks,
later on.
