Background

I have been a competitive athlete my entire life. After an injury-laden 2008 that ended in knee surgery, I decided to hang up my running shoes and look to other endurance hobbies. I bought a road bike and never looked back. Riding began as a healthy hobby, but quickly filled the competitive void that had been present since I stopped running. I bought Training and Racing with a Power Meter, a PowerTap wheelset, and started diving in to the world of competitive cycling.

My thirst for knowledge and love of analytics made combing through power files a second hobby. Working with several coaches over the years to develop myself as a cyclist drove me to become a coach myself. I’ve used these coaching experiences to put my own spin on coaching, and give back to the sport.

In addition to racing, I am actively involved in the Nashville, TN cycling community, and the current Vice President of the I AM Racing cycling team in Nashville, TN.

Coaching philosophy

As a coach, I aim to provide structured and tailored workouts to athletes that meet the demands of their short and long term goals. For training to be successful, it needs to be specific to the needs of the athlete. This includes event demands, duration, intensity, and volume. I pride myself in communicating with the athlete regarding why certain workouts have been prescribed when appropriate. The goal is to increase the athlete understanding in the plan, create buy-in, and deliver results.

In addition to structured and tailored workouts, I strive to be efficient. I am a husband, father of two, and have a demanding career. All athletes have a limited number of hours to train. It is our goal as coaches to assist in defining that amount of time, work within those constraints, and put our plan to work to achieve our goals.
