In the first part of this two part webinar, Dr. Coggan will discuss the physiological underpinnings to power-based training, with specific reference to the various analytical tools that he has developed. In particular, he will discuss the metabolic pathways used to provide energy during exercise and the physiological determinants of performance, and how these relate to the notion of power profiling. He will also cover the scientific basis for the concept of functional threshold power, and why this was chosen as an “anchor point” for the power-based training levels and in quadrant analysis. Finally, he will also discuss the physiological thinking behind development of the normalized power algorithm, training stress score, and the Performance Manager approach to monitoring training.
