I began racing as a self-coached athlete. After reading several of the usual books, I created a training plan for myself using charts, formulas, and scheduled workouts by code name. My first season consisted of three category 5 road races, during all of which I struggled to maintain contact with the field. Though I didn't have the season I wanted, I was hooked. But I wanted to perform much better.
While planning my training for the next season, I searched the internet for resources and found Hunter's website. After exchanging e-mails with Hunter, I decided that hiring him to be my coach would really be the best way to improve. My time was too valuable to continue learning how to train by trial-and-error. Hunter helped me identify my goals for the season ahead, and planned workouts a week at a time that were appropriate for the time of year and fit my busy schedule. Throughout my training, Hunter's encouragement and confidence in my ability really gave me a boost that I didn't have while coaching myself. Hunter's experience as a pro racer makes him a resource that is hard to find elsewhere. From tactics to pre-race routine, I found there's a lot more racing than just training. Hunter is always interested in my progress as an athlete, and wants me to get great results just as much as I do myself. Looking back on the season, I upgraded to category 4, and placed in the top 10, including 2nd and 5th place finishes. I'm really happy with my progress, and can't wait until the racing begins next year!
