"A unique opportunity to ride amazing gravel roads in a beautiful and warm location this winter; get ready for a fun week!"

--

  Hunter Allen

This is an incredible opportunity to ride your bicycle around some of the most unique terrain in the world. Hunter has teamed up with the famous Delgado brothers in Tenerife to bring you the ultimate gravel training experience in the Canaries. Stay at beautiful 4-star hotels, train on superior terrain at elevations of up to 0- 7,000 ft. above sea level, and indulge in a last day PAELLA party hosted by Mama Delgado herself!

This will be a gravel cycling training vacation you will remember the rest of your life!

Hunter will be coaching you throughout the week and will conduct three power training workshops.  Your power data will be analyzed daily by Hunter himself!  Camp is designed so that you can put in some great base miles on your gravel bike while enjoying some warm weather in an exotic location.  Hunter and the local guides speak both English and Spanish so don't worry about any language barriers.  We got that! This WILL BE a small intimate camp with the number of campers limited.

The island of Tenerife has sculpted some of the best cyclists in the world for Tour de France success. There is low to almost non-existent traffic on the endless mountain roads. The island has embraced its growing two-wheeled culture by offering ample cycling resources and a positive attitude towards cyclists. Tenerife is also well-known for its “eternal spring”.  The average temperature ranges between 60ºF minimum to 85ºF maximum throughout the year.  January temperatures average in the upper 60's.

This unique gravel cycling experience will sell out! Reserve your spot today!!

....Sometimes you are going to think you are in Utah with huge canyon views, other times, you’ll think you are in the mountains of the Pyrenees in Spain, and then you’ll think you are in the big island in Hawaii....

Tenerife and Gran Canaria are two of the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa and owned by Spain.  They are famous in the cycling world because it’s the only place in Europe where Pro cyclists/triathletes can go and “Sleep high/Train low”. There is a scary “Exorcist-like” hotel at the top of the volcano on Tenerife at 6,500’ where you can sleep high (if Jack Nicholson doesn’t get you!) and then you ride down the mountain to train low at sea level. This combination for professional athletes gives them the big red-blood cell boost they want and allows them to train very intensely.

Don’t worry, we are NOT staying at the Parador!    What we will do is start on the island of Gran Canaria, ride amazing gravel roads for 3 days, which will include one of the MOST amazing gravel routes I have ever done with a 2-hour descent down the coolest and most scenic secluded gravel road ever. From there, we’ll take a ferry to Tenerife, and then ride for 3 days in Tenerife.    It’s an incredible place with beautiful views, challenging riding and great hotels and food.    This is a cycling vacation in the warmth during January that you’ll remember forever.

Arrive in Gran Canaria!

Day 1 - Sunday - Jan. 22nd - Gran Canaria

Check-in at Hotel Don Gregory

Bike set-up/Group briefing and a leisurely 1.5- 2.0 hours spin to get the legs moving and get over any jet lag.

Welcome Dinner!

The Ride:  This day is a perfect day to shake off the jetlag. If you get here early, I'll take you on a special ride where you will think are in Arizona and the views are stunning.  Your first taste of gravel in Gran Canaria!  And snacks!  Bring them!

For those that get here a little later, don't worry, you'll get another ride that is just as cool with a fun short switchback climb and a stunning view across multiple ridges.   How did they get "Arizona canyons here"?!!!

23 Miles

2513' ft. of climbing

100% Road

One thing to keep in mind is the weather.  We'll adjust routes to keep you dry and as warm as we can!   You are going to get wet at least once though, so bring your rain jacket!

First taste of gravel

Day 2 - Monday - Jan. 23rd - Gran Canaria

While the miles might not seem like much, Tenerife is a mountainous volcano, so there will plenty of climbing.  We shuttle to the top of the mountain for our start today thankfully!  It's a long climb and it would make this a 6 hour day if we didn't!  A beautiful start to the day and after a short descent, you'll be climbing again (for a while...) to a beautiful little town called San Bartolome de Tirajana for a pastry!  We continue our ascent and then blast down the other side on some of the most fun descending of the camp.  All downhill to home (except for the uphills...;-) ).    This is a perfect day 2 and it's about a 4.5 hour ride.    Don't worry, you'll be back in time for an excellent dinner!  So much food!!!  Eat up.

The Ride:

40 miles

4505' ft. of climbing

65% road /35% gravel

Want to ride some more?

If any rider wants to add some miles, we can go for an extra ride once we finish, or we can adjust, that's easy to do.

Big Day!!! - THE most amazing descent ever.

Day 3 - Tuesday - Jan. 24th - Gran Canaria

It's a big day. Be prepared for a solid 6hours on the bike today. We shuttle to the start, which is about halfway up a 4-hour climb, so you'll only have to do the last 2 hours.  Be sure to eat along the way today!   We ride some of the nicest pavement of the week on our way to Tejada where we stop for more pastries and coffee.  Then we are off to the west coast which includes the most amazing 2 hour descent ever on a gravel bike. It goes down this jeep road that goes forever and ever with breathtaking views off to your right.  On a clear day, you can see Tenerife from here.  Once off the gravel descent, more amazing, paved descending awaits and then a hilly ride to the hotel where you'll enjoy a wonderful dinner and downtime.

The Ride:
45 miles

7917' ft. of climbing

65% road / 25% gravel

Want to ride some more?  You won't. This is a big day.

Explore Tenerife National Park

Day 4 - Wednesday - Jan. 25th - Tenerife

Today we will take a short ferry to Tenerife, and then RIDE THROUGH THE TENERIFE NATIONAL PARK.  NOW, this is dependent on the weather.  So, if it's raining or snowing on top of Mt. Teide, we will ride along some stunning roads along the coast.  However, if we are in harmony with the volcano gods of fire....  What can we say? If you have ever wanted to visit the moon, this is your chance!  It's a special place and another amazing day in Tenerife.  Fun roads, great gravel, and the views are out of this world!

The Ride:

65 miles

8261' ft. of climbing

65% road / 35% gravel

Check in at Hotel Barcelo Tenerife.

Terrific Tenerife Coastal Views

Day 5 - Thursday - Jan. 26th - Tenerife

It's another awesome day and you'll get your money's worth today.   This part of Tenerife is so special, and we ride through an abandoned "Leper Colony" along our route on the coast.  Don't worry though, if your legs are tired, just ride as much as you want today!  We can SAG you back to the hotel very easily.

The Ride:

43 miles

3907' ft. of climbing

55% Road – 45% Gravel

Paella Day!!

Day 6 - Friday - Jan. 27th - Tenerife

THE FAMOUS PAELLA DAY!!!!

My Favorite ride and day of the camp.  You will think you are in the mountains near Bend, Oregon today with thick pine forests, black lava fields, incredible gravel roads with no traffic!  You get to drink clean, fresh water from an aqueduct, and get to meet Mama Delgado ! Your legs will be tired, but your heart and mind (and stomach!) will be strong!   We ride a ton of gravel today and arrive at Mama's house for the now famous paella party!   This is a treat not to be missed!

The Ride:

41 miles

6240' ft. of climbing

20% road / 80% gravel

Founder and CEO

Legendary cycling coach, co-author of "Training and Racing with a Power Meter" and "Cutting-Edge Cycling", and "Triathlon Training with Power", co-developer of TrainingPeaks' WKO+ software, and founder of Peaks Coaching Group.

Widely known as one of the top experts in the world in coaching endurance athletes using power meters, Hunter Allen's goal has always been to teach athletes how to maximize their training and racing potential through professional analysis of their power data. This goes hand in hand with his philosophy that a power meter helps athletes discover their true strengths and weaknesses, quantitatively assess their training improvements, and refine and maximize the focus of their training.

As a coach, Hunter makes sure to look at each athlete as a whole person. He excels at designing custom programs designed to maximize each rider's potential. He believes we are human beings working closely with other human beings, and it's important to him to work hard to find your strengths and weaknesses and to help you improve your skills, then develop a realistic plan that works for life. It is important that a coach learn as much as he can about you as an athlete and as a person in order to better develop a plan for success. He has now coached over 700 athletes and still learns something new from each one.
