Background

My passion for riding bicycles began in 1999 during a time in my life when I felt most unhappy with my weight, physical strength, and overall fitness. I figured cycling could be a new and exciting way to get my workouts in. Little did I know that cycling through the beautiful views of Baltimore County would instantly become my new favorite form of exercise. I thrive when I have something to work towards, so I started to train for the Seagull Century in Salisbury, Maryland: 100 flat, winding miles in one day. I was riding another century the next year and, at a rest stop, saw a high school lacrosse teammate who I hadn’t seen in 20 years. He convinced me to join a road race team. I added racing crits & road races to my cycling journey. About 10 cold winters ago I was introduced to cyclocross racing, which is now my preferred race. The cold winter riding led me to try indoor cycling.

I started playing soccer, wrestling, and lacrosse in 3rd grade. I enjoyed playing all three of these sports throughout high school and continued on to play two years of lacrosse at Towson State University in 1981 & 1982. Towson is where I learned what it takes to be an elite athlete. I also learned a lot about coaching from 5 years as an assistant coach for a Jr Varsity school lacrosse team. We won the championship several times while I was there.

Coaching Philosophy

I believe in the art of applying science to cycling. In other words, I prefer to coach an athlete using a power meter and a heart rate monitor to record the effort of the athlete while training (the Science). The art of applying the science is to take into consideration the athlete's lifestyle & individual goals in designing their training plan. We will learn how to align the mental, physical & spiritual tenets of cycling to create an overall feeling of strength, speed & fitness. I will ask lots of questions, so I understand your goals and what you want to accomplish and use my engineering background to design your targeted workouts. I value the opportunity to share my knowledge.     I love working with Junior racers and have been involved in with a local team for many years.  I also excel at working with Masters riders and racers that need that little bit extra.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science

Notable achievements:

I have ridden many century rides including in Bedford, VA, Solvang, CA, Fountain Hills, AZ, Mallorca, Spain, Owings, MD, and more, but The Seagull Century in Salisbury, MD is my favorite.    I have a passion for CX racing and I promote a CX race every year.  I also have been teaching my own indoor cycling classes in my studio for over 10 years.  We have 25 Stages bicycles that we use and we have filled our classes every winter now for over 8 years.
