Background
I’ve spent my entire life riding bicycles. From the early crashes in the grass learning the ropes, to bumping elbows in BMX and road crits, the yearn to ride has never ceased. I’ve worked in shops as a mechanic, built dozens and dozens of bikes for myself over the years and have spent countless hours studying parts, the application of each piece, and how I could most effectively obtain it and use it to its full potential.
I’m a weight weenie at heart and finding ways to build lightweight, functional bikes, comes second to ensuring the bike is one I’m proud to ride. I love nothing more than someone asking me to help them find a bike for themselves or a friend. I get to apply all those years of practice helping them get a bike that fits the bill.
After years of racing BMX all over the Region as a youth and young adult, I found that the speed and smooth pavement was where I wanted to be. Road riding has been at the core of my activity since 2003. I’ve sprinkled in some BMX along the way to check on my age, and found that the skills learned in those races greatly enhanced my road riding.
I have competed in numerous road races, crits, and charity rides because challenging myself, even when I know the fitness may not be where it should, is still a heck of a lot of fun.
Coaching Philosophy – Passion driven – Experience Forged
I want to bring applicable skills and experience to anyone, regardless of age or experience level to create confidence, enjoyment, and a healthier lifestyle. While I use a power meter, HRM, and plans for my own riding, my focus is not on the technology; it’s on the skills needed to allow you to focus on the tech (if you use it) and not fear the road. If you can’t safely avoid obstacles, ride in a group, or grab a bottle while you pedal, I’m your guy! We will identify the specific set of practice steps you can take to gain confidence. And confidence brings your competitive spirit out!
Bring me a kid who wants to start BMX racing, learn how to ride a bike or an adult whose never been on a bike. My engagement with each rider will be tailored to their specific problem areas and their outlook of where they see the bicycle taking them.
